1. A minimum of score of 1000 on the aptitude portion (Verbal and Quantitative sections combined) of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). Students are not required to take the GRE Advanced test in psychology.
2. A minimum grade-point average of 3.0 on undergraduate coursework.
3. Three letters of recommendation from people familiar with the student’s academic and applied work.
4. A personal statement of career goals and rationale for pursuing the M.A. degree in the program.
5. In addition to the above, applicants are expected to have taken undergraduate courses in the following areas of psychology:
A. A course in statistics
B. A course in research methods in psychology OR a laboratory based psychology course
C. A course in conditioning and learning or behavior principles
D. A course in applied behavior analysis or behavior modification
E. One of the following:
a. Completion of an undergraduate Honor’s thesis
b. A laboratory based psychology course (in addition to the one meeting requirement # 2 above)
c. A course in some area considered to be experimental psychology
Important dates in the admissions process: Students will be admitted only to begin the M.A. degree in the Fall semester. The application deadline for admissions is March 1. Selected applicants will be interviewed either in person (if they are on the WVU campus) or via electronic media. Admissions decisions will be made on a rolling basis until the spaces allotted the track are filled.
Number of Students Admitted: Admission for the 2008-09 academic year is limited to three students.
