Evaluation of Student Progress
All students are evaluated by the developmental faculty at the end of the second semester each year. First-year students are also evaluated at mid-year. Evaluation is based on quality of performance both in and out of class, including: Evidence of professionalism as well as academic accomplishment, performance of duties assigned for financial support (e.g., performance as an instructor or as a research assistant), quantity and quality of research and service accomplishments, timely progress as defined by the Plan of Study, and by the "Target and Probation Dates for Milestones" provided in the Graduate Handbook, and other evidence indicative of success.
Students also evaluate faculty members for quality of courses and supervision. These evaluations are weighted heavily in the annual evaluation of each faculty member by the departmental Faculty Evaluation Committee--which also has graduate students as members.
