The Psychology Club and Psi Chi (the National Honor Society in Psychology)

 

The WVU Psychology Club is a student organization that is open to any student who has an interest in psychology.  The organization gives students many opportunities to become active on and off campus.  To join, all one needs to do is complete a simple application and submit $5 for the academic year.  Dues can be paid at any meeting, or during any officer's office hours in the Psychology Club and Psi Chi office, which is 2236 LSB   Being member of Psychology club has many advantages.  The organization sponsors speakers and other activities to advance the professional development of its members.  It promotes identification with the science of psychology and encourages participation in service activities to enhance the behavioral health of people in the community.  Also providing opportunities for students to interact with faculty and other professional psychologists outside of the classroom, and otherwise work to enrich the undergraduate experience on campus.  Students can become involved in the Psychology Club early in their undergraduate career, and later may be eligible to also participate in Psi Chi.

Psi Chi is the National Honor Society in Psychology, founded in 1929 for the purposes of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship, along with advancing the science of psychology.  Psi Chi at West Virginia University was chartered in 1948 as the 60th chapter.  Students who meet class standing and GPA requirements are encouraged to apply for membership.  There is a formal initiation ceremony annually. Benefits of membership include recognition of academic standing in psychology, professional affiliation, and a quarterly newsletter.  Psi Chi works closely with the Psychology Club to foster a scholarly approach to education in psychology at West Virginia University.
