Pictured above are WVU students and Religious Studies Coordinator Dr. Aaron Gale in front of a 9th century BC city gate in Israel. Gale traveled with the student volunteers to Israel in the summer of 2007 to participate in an archaeological dig at the biblical city of Bethsaida. Pictured (from L to R seated) are Lexie Reed, Julie Macklin, Ashley Echard, and Stephen Fernandez. Top row from left to right are Richie Symes, Andrew Hard, Dr. David Fogarty, Dr. Gale, Freya Swanson (on top), Annemarie Delagarza, Curtis Conrad, and Daniel Opatut.
Can you guess what this ancient black object (pictured below) was used for? It was found by the WVU group in Israel while on an archaeological dig.
Click on the link below to find the answer and to view more pictures from Israel! This year's group traveled to a number of fascinating places, including one of the new "Seven Wonders of the World"!

The Program for Religious Studies in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences meets the needs of West Virginia University students by offering instruction in the history and practice of many world religions including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Near Eastern religious traditions. In addition, the program offers opportunities for the exploration of many other interesting topics including Hebrew and Christian scriptures, ethics, and the history of evil.
