"It's wonderful to see the work you are doing at West
Virginia University. Many of us look forward to the day when discriminatory
practices on the basis of sexual orientation are recorded and remembered
as sad, inhumane chapters of our history. The work is sometimes slow
and exhaustive. The benefit is generations of people living safe,
secure, and fulfilling lives without fear or intimidation. Kudos to
all of you."

"The most precious courage we can have is the
courage to be ourselves and to know that the identity of self changes
constantly. Mother Nature tries to show us by example in a flower,
in the seasons, in cloud formations. I try to live my life with fascination
rather than fear. And then I try to find balance. One can be fascinated
by sexuality and forget about love and somehow that leaves a big empty
space with which to contend. However, those who are afraid to take
an honest look at sexuality are running from a glorious part of who
we are as a species. Truth, honesty, fascination, balance. I am opposed
to war and yet the great work is to really understand the meaning
and practice of peace. So for me, I want to stay open to all the possibilities.
And then make sure my choices stay firmly connected to peace, to passion,
and to love. And if that isn't life-long fun, I don't know what is!"
