Wildlife and Fisheries Resources, AS
The program will prepare students to complete their BS in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources at the WVU Davis College of Agriculture and Natural Resources School of Natural Resources. The Wildlife and Fisheries Resources program at WVU is a fully accredited program with undergraduate, MS and PhD programs that can lead to professional certification as wildlife or fisheries biologists. This curriculum focuses on both wildlife and fisheries; preparing students for careers or graduate education in both fields, in the area of management, biology and ecology.
The program provides the foundation for continued education in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources. Students receive personalized attention in small classes to prepare them for future academic endeavors. Other transfer opportunities also exist. Few students are able to enter the field without completing their studies at a four-year institution.
Graduation Requirements
In order to earn an Associate of Science degree in Forestry with a major in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources, a student must complete a minimum of 60 credit hours of required and elective course work.
Students wishing to enter the science option in the Wildlife and Fisheries Resources program at WVU should complete MATH 150. Students not entering the science option may substitute CHEM 111-112 for CHEM 115 and 116 and BIOL 101-104 for BIOL 115 and 117.
Note: FOR 191 replaces WVUe 191 as a first-semester requirement.
Career Outcomes
After completing a BS students have found jobs primarily with local, state and federal resource management agencies, although private opportunities do exist.
