You're admitted. Follow the steps below to become a Mountaineer — and celebrate with confetti!

1. Log in to WVU Portal

The WVU Portal is your gateway to online resources at WVU, including many required to complete your enrollment steps.

2. Pay the Academic Deposit

The academic deposit saves your place in our incoming class and allows you to continue the admissions process.

3. Apply for Housing

After paying the academic deposit, apply for housing. WVU has a First-Year Live On Requirement. The sooner you apply for housing, the sooner you’ll know where you’ll be living.

4. Submit the FAFSA

We encourage all students to fill out the FAFSA as soon as possible. Use our school code 003827 and submit the FAFSA prior to our March 1 priority deadline. The FAFSA is required for Federal and State aid programs, and to qualify for the Promise scholarship for West Virginia residents.

5. Take ALEKS Math Assessment

All new first-time freshman students are required are required to take an online math assessment (ALEKS) beginning with the summer and fall 2023 terms. You must have an ALEKS placement score before registering for New Student Orientation. There is no additional fee associated with ALEKS.

6. Accept or Decline Aid

Scholarship and financial aid offers usually begin around mid-December for first-time freshmen starting in the fall semester. You can review, accept or decline aid through the WVU Portal if you receive an offer, or revisit if aid is adjusted. Acceptance of scholarships and aid is non-binding – you forfeit your award if you cancel your application or attendance.

7. Complete New Student Orientation

NSO registration for fall 2023 admits opens in March. You must pay your academic deposit and complete the housing application before registering. Program details will be available when registration opens.

8. Choose a Dining Plan

Everyone living in campus housing is required to purchase an on-campus student dining plan. Commuters have the option of purchasing an off-campus student plan. Dining plans for the 2023-24 academic year will be available by June.

9. Pay Your Bill

Spring 2023 new students: Your first semester charges are available in WVU MyAccount (via WVU Portal). Payment was due January 3.

Fall 2023 new students: Your fall semester charges will be available in WVU MyAccount (via WVU Portal) in early July. You will receive a billing notification in your MIX email if you owe a balance. Payment is due August 1.

Tip: Tuition payment plans are available to break up your semester's tuition and fees into smaller, more manageable installments.

10. Move-in

Welcome home! If you’re living in a residence hall for fall 2023, you’ll sign up for a specific time slot to move in Aug. 10-12. Watch your MIX email for details.

Choose a First-Year Trip

Start your college experience like a real Mountaineer. Our optional Adventure WV First-Year Trips are peer-led, adventure-based programs that will prepare you for life at WVU. All trips are $95 or less and take place in June, July or August. Registration opens Monday, February 6, and is first-come, first-served for admitted students who have paid the academic deposit.

The Promise Scholarship for West Virginia residents is sponsored by the state of West Virginia. To be considered, you must complete the Promise application and submit the FAFSA by March 1.

You are automatically considered for WVU scholarships if you are admitted by the scholarship deadline — June 1. You should also investigate other scholarship sources to help fund your education.
