Submit the FAFSA

You must submit the FAFSA to be considered for federal aid. It's also required for other programs, like the West Virginia Promise Scholarship.

Steps to Complete

  1. Set up your Federal Student Aid ID.
  2. Fill out the FAFSA online or through the myStudentAid app.
  3. Use school code 003827 to send your information to WVU.
  4. Check your WVU MIX email frequently for follow-up steps you may need to complete, such as making corrections, submitting additional documents or simply accepting or declining your aid after it is offered.

Important Dates

  • October 1: Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available.
  • October 1: Promise scholarship application is available for West Virginia residents.
  • December/January: Check your WVU MIX email and WVU Portal for important financial aid, cost and merit scholarship details.
  • March 1: WVU’s FAFSA priority deadline and the Promise scholarship application deadline for West Virginia residents.
  • June 1: Merit scholarship eligibility deadline for first-time students.
