Pay Your Academic Deposit
The academic deposit is required of incoming first-time freshmen. Transfer students may be required to submit the academic deposit to sign up for WVU housing or Adventure WV.

Steps to Complete
- If you haven’t done so already, activate your account.
- Sign in to WVU Portal using your WVU Login credentials.
- Select the Pay Your Academic Deposit link inside WVU Portal and click the Deposits tab at top of page.
- Pay the academic deposit — $150 for West Virginia residents and $250 for all other students — using an electronic check or credit card (VISA, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express).
Contact the WVU IT Service Desk if you have a technical problem while paying the academic deposit.
We also have answers to common questions about the academic deposit. If you have other questions about the academic deposit, please contact your admissions counselor.
Paying the academic deposit is required to move forward with housing and New Student Orientation.
Transfer students who plan to live in a WVU residence hall or participate in an Adventure WV Trip are required to pay the academic deposit.
The academic deposit is fully refundable if you submit the cancellation request before May 1 (December 1 for students enrolling in the spring).
