Enroll as an International Student 🎉
You're admitted! Follow the steps below to become a Mountaineer.
Steps to Enrollment
International Students
1. Log in to the WVU Portal
The WVU Portal is your gateway to online resources at WVU, including many required to complete your enrollment steps.
To log in to the WVU Portal, you must first use Okta to activate your WVU Login. Okta activation instructions will be emailed within 2 hours of your WVU acceptance message. Always use the most recent activation email if you receive more than one. Activation links expire after 90 days.
Note: The WVU Portal is not the MyWVU application dashboard portal. The MyWVU portal is your dashboard related to the admissions application, including requests like changing your major or term, or canceling your WVU attendance.
2. Pay the Academic Deposit
The academic deposit saves your place in our incoming class and allows you to continue the admissions process. The academic deposit is fully refundable if you cancel attendance by May 1 for students enrolling in the fall and December 1 for students enrolling in the spring.
Important: You must pay the academic deposit before moving on to further steps.
3. Submit Additional Documents
If you were admitted based on unofficial transcripts, or transcripts that did not show your final grades and graduation, you must provide final official documents.
4. Request an I-20 or DS-2019 (Certificate of Eligibility)
Refer to the link in your admission letter to request an I-20 or DS-2019. Use your WVU Login to upload the necessary documentation to request your I-20 or DS-2019.
For instructions, see International Students and Scholars Services’ New Student Onboarding information.
5. Complete Pre-Arrival Orientation
International Students and Scholars Services (ISSS) will email instructions for completing your Pre-Arrival Orientation.
6. Apply for Housing
First-time freshmen and transfer students with fewer than 24 credits: WVU has a First-Year Live On Requirement. After paying the academic deposit, apply for housing in a WVU residence hall.
Transfer students with 24 or more credits: You are not required to live on campus and may choose from University Apartments, off-campus housing, and residence halls.
7. Choose a Dining Plan
Everyone living in campus housing is required to purchase an on-campus student dining plan. Students living off-campus have the option of purchasing an off-campus student plan.
Reminder: You must complete your housing application before choosing a dining plan.
8. Complete Health Insurance Waiver
All international students are required to have health insurance coverage. You will be billed for the WVU student health insurance plan unless you opt out by completing the student health insurance waiver by July 24.
9. Complete New Student Orientation
New Student Orientation will introduce you to WVU and Morgantown. You also will work with an academic adviser to finalize your first semester classes.
In addition to your main orientation, International Students and Scholars Services will email you about check-in and international student activities.
10. Travel to the U.S. and Arrange Airport Pick-Up
You are not permitted to travel to the U.S. more than 30 days prior to your program start date (first day of classes). Once you have finalized your travel arrangements to the U.S., if you need assistance with airport pick-up, ground transportation services are available.
11. Pay Your Bill
Fall semester charges will be available in WVU MyAccount (via WVU Portal) in early July. You will receive a billing notice in your MIX email if you owe a balance. Payment is due August 1.
Tuition payment plans are available to break up your tuition and fees into smaller, more manageable installments.
12. Move-in
Welcome home! If you are living in a WVU residence hall, move-in information will be sent to your WVU MIX email. If you are living off-campus or in University Apartments, contact your property manager for move-in information.
