Change of Term Request for Admitted Students

Moving to a Future Term

Freshman and transfer students admitted for an upcoming term who wish to move their start date to a future term should withdraw their current application in the WVU Gateway and reapply for the term of interest.

  • Log into the WVU Gateway, select “submit request” in the top right corner, and follow the prompts to withdraw your current application.
  • The application with be cancelled, along with items such as housing assignments in a WVU residence hall or LLC, and financial aid awards.
  • Students who have leased with University Apartments must work directly with their office related to cancellation.
  • You will be notified of the cancellation via email which includes instructions on how to apply for a future term when the application is available.
  • Deadlines apply for academic and housing deposit refunds.
  • Official documents may be required before receiving an admissions decision for a future term, including final high school transcripts and college transcripts.
  • Applicants are encouraged to submit an updated FAFSA for the term or academic cycle of interest.
  • The following will be determined based on information submitted with your new application:
    • Application type, i.e., freshman or transfer
    • Eligibility for direct admission to a major
    • Honors College eligibility
    • Merit scholarships, financial aid eligibility, and cost of attendance
    • Residency classification
    • First-year live on requirement for housing
    • Eligibility for student accommodation
    • Transferable credit

Students admitted for the fall 2026 term who wish to move to a summer 2026 start should contact an admissions specialist as assigned below.
