Apply as a Non-Traditional Students

WVU welcomes students of all ages and backgrounds. Whether you're coming to college for the first time or returning after time away, you'll find a place here.

Admission Requirements

You are considered a non-traditional student if:

  • You are over the age of 23.
  • You graduated from high school 5 or more years ago.

Students who did not attend WVU as freshmen and attended college elsewhere should apply as a transfer student.

Non-traditional students are required to submit an official high school transcript with their application.

Standardized test scores are not required if you graduated or would have graduated high school 5 or more years ago.

If you graduated or would have graduated less than 5 years ago, we will accept the scores listed on the official high school transcript or sent to the WVU Office of Admissions from the testing center.

If you are classified non-traditional but you have taken the TASC, GED, or HiSET, review the freshman admission requirements.

Students must have at least a 2.0 grade point average in all college work attempted. Non-traditional students who have completed less than 24 transferable credit hours at another accredited institution must also meet freshman admission requirements.

How to Apply

We offer a variety of opportunities for non-traditional students, including the flexible, individualized Regents Bachelor of Arts program and unique online programs through WVU Online.
