Submitting Transcripts and Test Scores

Submitting Transcripts

First-time Freshman and Transfer Students

All applicants must submit transcripts of previous coursework.

High School Transcripts

From U.S. high schools:

  • To receive an admissions decision, submit an unofficial transcript through the MyWVU Portal, either while completing the application or afterward, using the document checklist.
  • High schools can send an official transcript using their electronic document service, by emailing scanning@mail.wvu.edu, or by mail to WVU Office of Admissions, P.O. Box 6009, Morgantown, WV 26506.
  • If you earned dual credits in high school, contact the college where you received the credit to request a transcript.
Processing Times

Documents sent by email or document service take 3-5 business days to process. Mailed documents take 2-3 weeks from the date sent.

Final Transcripts

Before classes begin, all enrolling first-time students must have an official high school transcript on file. Your final transcript must show completion of classes, cumulative GPA, and graduate date. If we don’t have your final transcript, a registration hold will be placed on your account, preventing you from scheduling future classes.

College Transcripts, AP Score Reports, and IB Transcripts

Each institution you attended must send an official transcript to scanning@mail.wvu.edu. Processing takes 2-3 weeks from the date ordered. We do not accept credit listed on another school’s transcript, or college credit listed on a high school transcript.

Advanced Placement (AP) may be submitted to the WVU Office of Admissions as follows:

  • An electronic score report ordered via College Board. Please use code 5904. Processing takes 5-7 business days from the date sent.
  • Currently enrolled WVU students seeking transfer credit for AP courses must submit the official AP score report and file the AP Articulation Request ticket.

International Baccalaureate (IB) transcripts may be ordered and sent to our office through the IB secure site or paper transcript.

How to Submit Materials

Most freshman applications can be reviewed based on unofficial transcripts. Upload copies of your transcripts with your application, if possible. If not, or if you need to provide more documents, you will have an opportunity to provide them after you submit your application.

Transfer and second bachelor’s degree applications require official transcripts for review. WVU accepts documents delivered through the following services as official: WES ICAP, ECE Dispatch, Parchment, eScript, the National Student Clearinghouse, ETX.NG, and MyCreds.ca. If you cannot use those services, you can send official paper documents by mail. Our address is:

Intensive English Program (IEP) conditional applicants must provide the appropriate academic materials for their intended student type. Those applying directly to the IEP without a degree program must provide proof of secondary school completion.

To enroll, you will need to provide official copies of any unofficial documents used during your application review. You must provide final documents if the documents provided for review were not final. You can also send those to the address above or bring them with you when you come to campus.

WVU accepts electronic score delivery for SAT, ACT, TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, and Duolingo scores. WVU also accepts scores from those exams that we can verify through the testing agency.

Submitting ACT, AP, or SAT Test Scores

  • List WVU to receive your scores when registering for the exam. You can include up to 6 institutions as free sends.
  • Order the scores to be sent by the testing center to WVU Admissions. Scores will take 2-3 weeks to receive and process from the date sent.

Please note:

  • Scores must be sent directly from the testing agency.
  • Screenshots, photos, and web printouts will not be accepted.
  • WVU does not accept self-reported test scores on the Common App.
  • We will not accept scores listed on a high school transcript. Scores on a high school transcript will not be considered for:
    • Admission
    • Direct placement to a major
    • Math placement
    • Merit scholarships
    • Honors College
  • We accept multiple test dates for ACT and SAT and superscore for admission, the Honors College, and WVU institutional scholarship offers.

Beginning April 2025 for online testing, the science section of the ACT is optional. For in-person tests, whether it is optional depends on the requirements of the state where it is taken. If you take the science section, WVU will calculate 2 superscores — one including the science score and 1 without — and use the higher of those 2 superscores. This ensures you receive the best chance for admission and institutional scholarship opportunities.
  • For merit scholarships, official scores must be received by August 1. If ordering from the testing center, delivery takes 2-3 weeks. The order date does not qualify as meeting the August 1 deadline. The official scores must be received no later than August 1.
