Keep track of important dates and deadlines leading up to your first semester at WVU.

Timeline for New Undergraduate Students

This timeline is for prospective and admitted first-time freshmen, international students, and transfer students with a fall term start.

Spring students are encouraged to contact their WVU Admissions Counselor for assistance.

August

  • WVU offers a rolling admission (we admit students throughout the year).

There is no advantage to completing the Common App vs. the WVU application. Both have the same requirements and admissions decision timeline.

September

October

  • The Promise Scholarship application is available to West Virginia residents on October 1. In addition to completing the application, you must submit test scores (ACT or SAT) and a completed FAFSA by March 1.

November

Note: Check your WVU MIX email frequently.

January

February

  • First-time freshmen should connect with their Admissions Counselor and sign up for a one-on-one appointment.
  • Adventure WV First-Year Trips registration opens for admitted students entering in the fall semester.
  • Register to attend a virtual session with staff and current students. Topics include residence life, academics and majors, financial aid, and enrollment steps.

March

  • FAFSA priority deadline is March 1.

Note: March 1 is also the deadline to submit FAFSA for the West Virginia Promise Scholarship.

April

  • ALEKS is available for incoming students who require math placement assessment.

May

  • The deadline to cancel your WVU attendance for the fall term and receive a full refund of the academic deposit is May 1. You can cancel your attendance by logging into your MyWVU application dashboard and submitting a change request.

June

July

  • Fall charges are applied to your bill and available in your WVU Portal beginning the first week of July.
  • The Tuition Payment Plan is available in July for the fall semester.
  • Housing will release information in July about residence hall move-in.

Note: Watch your MIX email for details related to billing, payment, and residence hall move-in.

August (Your First Semester)

  • Scholarship deadline: Students enrolling in the fall must be admitted by August 1 to be eligible for merit scholarships. Admitted students have until August 1 to submit updates to GPA or test scores. Earlier deadlines may apply for some awards.
  • Move-in dates and times for residence halls will be released in July.
  • New Student Orientation (transfer student programming available)
  • August 18 - First day of fall 2026 classes! Let’s Go!
