Why should a student in your area consider WVU over other local options?

WVU is situated in an area that allows for outdoor activities and is only an hour away from Pittsburgh. Regardless of where a MD student is from, they can feel at home at WVU because of our unique geography. We are an R1 research institution and want students to gain hands on/real world experience. WVU is a big school with small vibes that is great for any student.

What makes WVU such a great value?

WVU is a great value because of our academic and social offerings. We offer a small school feel and 1 on 1 relationships with faculty and staff, but have the backing of our R1 and land grant designations to help our students soar into whatever path they’re interested in. We have a huge network of internship opportunities and employers for students in all of our majors. As a WVU grad, I know that WVU cares about their students and their successes both while they’re in school and when they’re well beyond graduation. WVU isn’t just for 4 years - it truly is something that sticks with you for life. Maryland residents can be close to home, all while gaining experience for the future at a large and cost efficient institution.

What are some things you would share with a student that they probably wouldn’t know about WVU?

We have so many study abroad opportunities! And that Morgantown isn’t a rural area like other parts of WV. We even have trails at Falling Run Greenspace directly on our downtown campus! There is always something going on. WVU works hard to ensure students are both academically and socially integrated.

What advice do you give to students who are preparing for college?

Visit anywhere they’re interested in and don’t count out anywhere just because mom/dad are alumni or love the school. It’s okay to be unsure about your path - what’s important is feeling like your institution is a welcoming and safe place to explore all academic opportunities and to find themselves!

What else would you like for us to know?

I’m a 2x grad and pursuing my doctoral degree in higher education at WVU. I came to WVU with a completely different plan, but found my footing and passions while I was here (and still am)!
