Why should a student in your area consider WVU over other local options?
You get big university experience and a place to call home. We offer personalized attention AND big-time opportunities with less competition. It’s close to home but still feels like a true college level move.
What makes WVU such a great value?
We offer competitive merit scholarships and the Ohio Reciprocity Agreement for specific majors. It may be out of state cost but can be much lower than anticipated. We offer high-quality education with big reward. You’re getting R1 level opportunities including hands on learning, top-notch facilities, and internship opportunities at a competitive price. At WVU you’re not choosing between cost and opportunity, you get both.
What are some things you would share with a student that they probably wouldn’t know about WVU?
Most people are surprised at how hands-on and welcoming West Virginia University feels. As an R1 research institution, WVU offers high level research opportunities, yet classes are personal and professors know your name. Students can get involved in real-world experiences as early as their freshman year, but what stands out the most is the atmosphere. Often prospective students are quick to say how friendly the campus is and how it feels like “home”.
What advice do you give to students who are preparing for college?
One of the best things that you can do in preparing for college is to visit college campuses and connect with college admission representatives. A campus visit helps you get a true feel for the environment. Pay attention to how it feels, not just how it looks. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and build relationships with admissions representatives. We are here to help guide you through your opportunities and help you see how you might fit into a school. The more informed and connected you are with your options, the more confident you will be in your decision making.
What else would you like for us to know?
I would encourage you to keep an open mind in your college search. Sometimes the best fit isn’t the school that you originally expected. Focus on where you feel supported, where you can see yourself getting involved, and where you’ll have real opportunities to grow. Also, don’t assume that out of state (cost) means out of reach. Most importantly, choose a place that feels like “home” because that’s where you’ll thrive!
