Why should a student in your area consider WVU over other local options?

WVU really hits that sweet spot for students. It’s close enough to home that you still feel connected to your family and community, but far enough away to gain independence, grow, and discover who you are on your own.

What makes WVU such a great value?

WVU offers top-tier research opportunities, study abroad experiences, and a wide range of extracurriculars, all right here in our home state. With competitive scholarships and the ability to stack local awards like Promise, it’s a great way to get the most bang for your buck while still creating memories that last a lifetime.

What are some things you would share with a student that they probably wouldn’t know about WVU?

Did you know WVU is one of your state’s land-grant institutions? That means we’re not just a university, we’re committed to serving all West Virginians through education, research, and outreach. From soil testing on local farms (like my family’s farm) to PR students helping rebrand small towns for tourism, to mobile cancer clinics reaching communities across the state, WVU is actively working to improve lives right here at home. And as a student, you get to be part of that impact, which is pretty special!

What advice do you give to students who are preparing for college?

I didn’t fully realize WVU was the right place for me until I came on my campus tour. If you have the chance, I really encourage you to visit. Schedule an academic appointment, try some local food, go to a game, and see what life in Morgantown feels like. That visit helped me picture myself here, and I ended up becoming a campus tour guide for 3 years because I loved sharing that experience with others.

What else would you like for us to know?

When I am not working, I am spending time in my territory! I feel lucky to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, so I try to enjoy it through hiking, skiing, taking photos, camping, and finding new swimming holes. I also really enjoy celebrating the culture of our region. I spend time square dancing, volunteering at my local community theater, and slowly learning how to play the banjo. There’s always something special to take part in around here, and I love being involved.
