Why should a student in your area consider WVU over other local options?

I consistently hear that WVU is “just right” in so many capacities for students in Central PA! They love that it’s not too close or not too far. They are attracted to being at a D1, R1 institution with a Level 1 Trauma Center Hospital that has a 16:1 student to faculty ratio. With 130 majors, WVU has robust academic offerings. The suburban atmosphere of campus is matched by welcoming school spirit. Country roads (or well, Turnpike, Route 81, 70, and 68) can lead students to WVU to pursue all of professional and personal growth!

What makes WVU such a great value?

WVU provides a fantastic college experience from earning a degree to developing passions and strengths while creating lifetime memories and lasting relationships. WVU offers merit-based scholarships, based on high school credentials, which are renewable each year as long as meeting renewal requirements. WVU supports students with career placement and graduate school applications. Some of our colleges can boast an over 90% career placement, making WVU a great return on investment. Living in Morgantown is also an affordable option for our upperclassmen.

What are some things you would share with a student that they probably wouldn’t know about WVU?

I always share with students about our Personal Rapid Transit, the PRT, as a primary way to navigate our three areas of campus. A Level 1 Trauma Center Hospital that is owned and operated by WVU is also impressive. I often mention that 60% of our classes are under 40 students and that we simply do not have many large classrooms on campus. Students are excited to hear about our Rec Center and the option of club and intramural sports. It’s always fun to share about how the Mountaineer mascot is selected in a public cheer off and is one of the only mascots in the country with a visible face when in role.

What advice do you give to students who are preparing for college?

We often start the college conversation about choice of major. Be thinking and considering other components of the college experience. What else is important to you? What are those parts of your identity that you want to continue to grow, such as being physically active, serving others, hobbies, interests, education abroad, music, art, creative talents, faith formation, outdoor recreation, and more. A college is responsible for helping develop an individual so many capacities, be thinking about what you want to explore and do outside of your class.

What else would you like for us to know?

I’ve never met a WVU alumni who was not incredibly proud to share about their Mountaineer and Morgantown experience. When you see the Flying WV, you got to say “Let’s Go!
