Fall 2023 Merit Scholarship Charts

When you apply to WVU as a first-time freshman, we automatically consider you for five levels of merit scholarships and some college scholarships.

Are you entering WVU for the fall 2023, spring 2024 or summer 2024 term? Use our 2023-2024 charts below to determine your eligibility. Our Scholarship of Distinction is for test-score senders and our Go First Scholarship is for test-optional students.

Scholarship of Distinction Chart

The Scholarship of Distinction is for score senders. You cannot receive both the Scholarship of Distinction and Go First Scholarship. Learn more about scholarships.

Scholarship of distinction amounts: Level amount in-state: $4,000. Amount out-of-state: $16,000. Level 2 amount in-state: $3,500. Amount out-of-state: $12,000. Level 3 amount in-state: $2,500. Amount out-of-state: $10,000. Level 4 amount in-state: $1,500. Amount out-of-state: $9,000. Level 5 amount in-state: $1,250. Amount out-of-state: $7,000. WVU in-state tuition is $8,976. Out-of-state tuition is $25,320. Learn more at financialaid.wvu.edu. WVU uses a weighted GPA if provided on the high school transcript or self-reported by the student. WVU rounds high school GPAs to the second decimal point (e.g. 4.195 is rounded up to 4.2 while 4.19 stays at 4.19). Applies to WVU Morgantown. Self-reported GPAs may be adjusted based on the official transcript.

Go First Scholarship Chart

The Go First Scholarship is for test optional applicants. You cannot receive both the Scholarship of Distinction and Go First Scholarship. Learn more about scholarships.
